Born and raised in Carson City, Nevada, Dr. Andrea is a proud native of Nevada. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2003 and then received her Doctoral degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado in 2007. Upon graduation in May of 2007, Dr. Andrea joined Dr. Scott Leinassar’s family practice in Smith Valley, NV. Prior to her career as a dentist, Dr. Andrea was mentored by Dr. Scott as his employee as a dental assistant, so a career in dentistry began as early as her high school graduation from Smith Valley in 1998. It was always a goal for Dr. Scott and wife Marianne to take a younger person under their wing and introduce them to dentistry. They have always thought it important to provide access to care for this community, and with the addition of Dr. Andrea there will be more longevity for the family practice and access for dental health care. Dr. Andrea became the daughter-in-law to Dr. Scott Leinassar and his wife Marianne after marrying their son Kristofor in August of 2008. Dr. Andrea and her husband Kris welcomed their daughter Aubrey into the family in August of 2011 and their son Jeremy in July 2014. Dr. Andrea and her husband enjoy being proud, busy parents of two active children. In her personal time Dr. Andrea enjoys spending time with family and friends, being a mother of two wonderful children and supporting them in all their sports activities. When time permits, she would love to take up some old favorites such as playing softball, snowboarding, camping, and golfing.
The family is happy to announce that Dr. Andrea is now the proud owner of our wonderful family practice for which the family continues to work closely together. Dr. Scott is still practicing dentistry a few days a week, and Danielle Rausch, Scott and Marianne’s daughter (Dr. Andrea’s sister-in-law) has remained a very integral part of the practice on the business management end. Dr. Andrea maintains affiliations with the American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association, and the Northern Nevada Dental Society. Also, Dr. Andrea currently maintains an active post graduate continuing education curriculum that has included general restorative and occlusion concepts, dental materials, technique and practice concepts from CRA, practice management concepts, infection control and OSHA, Restorative Implant and Mini Implant placement, Invisalign, and CEREC dentistry.
Dr. Scott was born and raised in Astoria, Oregon. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1979, his Doctoral degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1984, and established his practice of General Dentistry in Smith Valley in 1985. Dr. Scott’s introduction to the Smith Valley community was through his wife, Marianne, as she is a proud native of Smith Valley where she was raised on her parent’s ranch. Dr. Scott and Marianne have two grown children, Kristofor and Danielle. Dr. Scott and Marianne built the family dental practice and opened the doors on April 1st, 1985. They sold the practice to Dr. Andrea in 2025, Dr. Scott continues to work and practice dentistry. Dr. Scott Leinassar has a long history with family health care, his father was a physician of thirty-five years as a specialist in internal medicine, and he has two brothers who are also involved in family dental practices in Oregon.
In his personal time Dr. Scott enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, golfing, and woodworking. Dr. Scott Leinassar maintains affiliations with the American Dental association, Nevada Dental Association, Northern Nevada Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Scott Leinassar currently maintains an active post graduate continuing education curriculum with training in Smile Design from the Las Vegas Institute, general restorative and occlusion from the Spears Education Institute, certification in Laser dentistry, current endodontic concepts from Buchanan, current dental materials, technique and practice concepts from CRA, Invisalign, and CEREC dentistry.
Life tends to offer several milestones. Here at Smith Valley Smiles we have approached one that offers great opportunity for introspection and reflection. April 1, 2016 is the anniversary for opening the office; 31 years ago. Yes 31 years!
I find it absolutely amazing that Marianne and I have been in this adventure for this long. Reflecting back, it dawned on me, but as someone born and raised in Oregon, we have lived here much longer than my years in Oregon. I am comfortable saying that I am a Nevadan; proud and happy to be here.
I remember quite clearly the anxiety and trepidation involved with building the office from scratch, whether or not the practice would be a success, how would we make it all work. Some predicted failure, most did not. Marianne and I have always taken the approach that good, bad, or ugly, this is what we were going to do. Over the years we have seen the practice grow, expanded the building and equipped the office to accommodate this; watched our children grow and bring their lives back to include us, and see a new generation providing access to care.
To all of our family, friends, and patients who have been with us through the years, Thank You! I am humbled by your support; and to the one person who has believed in me and supported me through all of this, and an incredible partner in building this Marianne, thank you, I love you. Sorry Prez. B.O. we did build this, we have the pictures to prove it. We have included some of them for you.
Words from Dr. Andrea
Wow! 31 years! First of all, I must say congratulations Scott and Marianne. Kristofor and I, as well as Danielle and Daniel, and Fred are so happy for you. As I sit back and reflect on where I fit into all of this, it reminds me of how fast time does fly, and how lucky and proud I am to be a part of what we are doing here at Smith Valley Smiles.
May of this year marks eight years since my graduation from dental school and my beginning as Dr. Andrea in the practice. Some people advised against working with family and had doubts about mixing the personal and professional relationships. I can tell you it has been such a pleasure working with my mother and father-in-law. Scott and Marianne have supported and nourished my life both professionally and personally, and I could not be more grateful for the relationship we have developed.
When I think back on all the stories about the beginnings of Smith Valley smiles a.k.a. Scott Leinassar DMD, two cannot go without mention. One is the integral part Mariannes parents, Fred and Irene, had in helping Scott and Marianne get the practice built in the very place it stands today.
Although many changes have been made the pictures give some insight into where it all began in 1985 and what it has become today; in fact, the sign you see in the summer of 1991 pictures surrounded by all the beautiful flowers, was a gift from Irene.
The second story is about a letter Dr. Scott shared with me written to him from his father Jorma who was a physician. It was the opportunity given to me to by Scott and Marianne to work at the dental office in 1998 and this letter that encouraged me to pursue a career in dentistry.
To Kristofor, thank you for sticking it out the four years we were apart while I went to dental school and for never hesitating to support my decision to go to Denver. When I think about the word family in Smith Valley Smiles Family Dentistry, several meanings come to mind.
To our patients, our team, our friends and our families, thank you for your support.
To Scott and Marianne, thank you for bringing me into this with open minds and hearts. From Kristofor and I, Aubrey and Jeremy, thank you Mom and Dad (grandma and grandpa), congrats to 31 years! CHEERS!
